Spring › Butterflies & Moths
March | April | May
I start seeing the first few individual butterflies of the spring season right around mid March. Cabbage white, anglewings (eastern comma and question mark) and mourning cloak are the first species to appear, although not in large numbers. Food is scarce as yet, and the early arrivals are often found on a sunny patch of ground or against a tree collecting what warmth they can.
